NHTSA evaluates allegations of Tesla robotaxis speeding in school zones

Tesla Robotaxi Cybercab Image: Primary
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it is evaluating allegations that Tesla robotaxis exceed posted speed limits in active school zones. The Verge reports that the agency received a petition on September 23 requesting an investigation into model year 2026 Model Y and Cybercab vehicles operating with their automated driving system engaged. The evaluation concerns alleged behavior of the automated driving system. Tesla's Cybercab is already under investigation for lacking side mirrors, pedals and a steering wheel, and NHTSA has separately opened an investigation into traffic violations involving Tesla's Full Self-Driving system.
