Figma opens code layers beta and begins Specs and Payload rollouts

Figma opens code layers beta and begins Specs and Payload rollouts Image: Primary
Figma said it is rolling out code layers in open beta on all plans, letting teams bring working code onto its design canvas. Specs, a Markdown editor that links shared decisions to designs, diagrams and code layers, is also beginning an open beta rollout on paid plans. Teams can pass Specs to coding agents through Figma's MCP server, which connects external AI tools to the platform. Design guidelines are in open beta on paid plans, while importing code sources starts in closed beta. Figma is also integrating Payload into Figma Make so teams can manage web app content without editing source code. Payload access is rolling out to all accounts over the coming weeks.
