Ford pledges to keep driving data out of broker sales

Ford has pledged never to sell customers' driving data to third-party data brokers, The Verge reports. The automaker says it will use aggregation and anonymization to protect data and let customers adjust how much information they share, while continuing to use data to improve safety. The public promise can expose Ford to action over deceptive claims if it breaks the commitment. Its privacy policy and connected vehicle terms still allow sharing for purposes including police requests and outside service providers. Customers also face functional tradeoffs: turning off vehicle tracking or location sharing often disables features such as built-in navigation, remote start, and wireless software updates.
