Cisco and Nvidia propose denser optical modules for AI networks

Cisco and Nvidia propose denser optical modules for AI networks Image: Primary
Cisco and Nvidia are developing a proposed USFP optical-module design that they claim provides 4x the bandwidth density of today's 200Gb/s-per-lane modules, according to Jose Najarro. The removable modules connect networking equipment, fitting more data lanes into roughly the same space and increasing each lane's speed. The design aims to move more data before operators need another layer of switches and links. An open industry specification is planned, and no shipment date has been announced.
