Walapay announced a $4.6 million seed financing led by Gen Venture Capital, with participation from Commerce Ventures, Polygon and other investors. The company plans to use the funds to acquire more licenses, expand banking partnerships and grow its team. Walapay says it is building infrastructure that lets users open accounts, receive payments, exchange currencies and make global payments through a single integration. Its stated focus is cross-border capital flows in emerging markets across Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
