UK plans military space squadron to counter satellite threats
Image: Primary Britain announced plans Wednesday for a Royal Air Force squadron that would act against threats to its satellites, including through electronic warfare. The Ministry of Defence said the unit, No III Space Effects Squadron, would protect satellites used for communications and missile warnings by disrupting or denying hostile activity.
The planned unit would add an active response role to two British squadrons established in 2023 to watch for and warn of space threats. Its launch is still ahead: Air Chief Marshal Harv Smyth is due to formally unveil the squadron at a London conference Wednesday.
