BigQuery can query Databricks Iceberg tables without copying data

BigQuery can query Databricks Iceberg tables without copying data Image: Primary
Google Cloud says BigQuery can now query Databricks-managed Apache Iceberg tables directly through its Lakehouse service, removing the need to copy data between the platforms. BigQuery reads the same underlying files that Databricks writes, with changes appearing after scheduled metadata refreshes as often as every 5 minutes. The connection uses table metadata to locate relevant files and temporary credentials to grant access. Administrators can apply BigQuery row-level and column-level controls and dynamic data masking to external Iceberg tables. The service also supports data held in Amazon S3 and Azure Blob Storage. Remote-cloud egress charges still apply, and caching retrieved cross-cloud data blocks in Google Cloud is a preview feature.
