Global smartphone shipments fall 20% in third quarter

Global smartphone shipments fell 20% in the third quarter of 2026 to their lowest level in 14 years, according to Counterpoint Research figures reported by 9to5Google. Samsung's shipments declined 3%, with the Galaxy Z Fold 8's performance helping its quarter. Apple recorded a 22% year-over-year shipment decline, which Counterpoint linked to the absence of the base iPhone 18. Xiaomi's shipments fell 30%. The uneven declines show that the market contraction affected major manufacturers differently.
