Inertia and LLNL report faster fuel-target formation for fusion design

Inertia and LLNL report faster fuel-target formation for fusion design Image: Primary
Fusion startup Inertia Enterprises and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory reported a faster process for forming the frozen deuterium-tritium shell in inertial-fusion fuel targets. The partners said the step now takes under three hours rather than multiple days, after work performed at LLNL over several months. Inertia says its proposed plant would need roughly 10 targets per second, and simulations found target quality within the limits of its reactor design. The result addresses one manufacturing step needed for a commercial fuel-production line.
