Synology warns of ransomware attacks on storage devices running outdated software

Synology warns of ransomware attacks on storage devices running outdated software Image: Primary
Synology warned that attackers are exploiting a vulnerability patched in December 2024 to target network storage devices running outdated versions of its DSM software. The company urged users to update immediately and enable automatic updates. BleepingComputer reported customer accounts of files encrypted by C3rb3r, with demands for thousands of dollars for decryption. Synology did not identify the specific vulnerability being exploited or the number of devices at risk. These storage devices can hold business documents and centralized backups. Their RAID redundancy and built-in backup features do not necessarily protect stored files from ransomware encryption.
