BMW plans urban driver assistance in Germany from 2027

DI26_000461430 Image: Primary
BMW says it will extend navigation-guided driver assistance to city streets starting in Germany in 2027, with other markets to follow. Software updates will activate the capability in select models equipped with the necessary cameras and sensors. The system can assist with steering, acceleration, braking, lane changes, turns, yielding and roundabouts. Drivers must watch the road and remain ready to intervene. Unlike its hands-free highway operation, city use will require hands on the wheel. BMW says outside experts have tested compliance with technical standards, with final government approval expected in early 2027.
