Meta bars ads directing users to ByteDance apps in seven countries

Meta bars ads directing users to ByteDance apps in seven countries Image: Primary
Meta has banned ByteDance from advertising on Facebook and Instagram in seven countries, with a spokesperson confirming the restriction to Reuters. The ban took effect immediately in the US, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam. The restriction also covers other advertisers whose ads direct people to TikTok or other ByteDance apps in those markets. Meta defended rejecting a competitor's ads as normal business practice. TikTok and ByteDance did not respond to Reuters' requests for comment. The ban restricts paid promotion on Meta's platforms but does not prevent people from using TikTok. TikTok has more than 200 million US users.
