Introducing Claude for Teachers
Anthropic announced the launch of Claude for Teachers, providing verified K-12 educators in the United States free access to premium Claude capabilities, a library of teaching skills, and a direct connection to evidence-based curricula mapped to academic standards in all 50 states. The company said the product connects to Learning Commons, giving Claude access to academic standards and the smaller learning competencies beneath them, so that when it drafts a lesson plan it is scaffolded and aligned to teaching standards. It also brings in curricular resources such as OpenSciEd and IM v.360 from Illustrative Mathematics. Educators can now connect Claude across an ecosystem of K-12 tools including ASSISTments, Brisk Teaching, Canva Education, Coteach, Diffit, Eedi, MagicSchool, Snorkl, and TeachFX. Once verified, teachers get access to tailored teaching skills co-developed with Learning Commons and evaluated for rigor, pedagogical alignment, and classroom usability. Features include planning lessons from high-quality instructional materials and differentiating for every learner. The product includes Claude Code and Cowork, allowing teachers to hand off tasks such as analyzing class data or scheduling repeated tasks. Anthropic said the product comes with its own teacher terms built for K-12 privacy, and data is not used for model training. The company is working with the American Federation of Teachers to align terms and privacy practices with gold standards they are developing. AFT President Randi Weingarten said the union has been working with Anthropic on a Gold Standard that sets out industry best practices for safety and privacy in K-12 education. Teachers can also access a newly released AI Fluency for K-12 Teachers course co-created with Teach for America and a train-the-trainer module co-created with the AFT. Anthropic said it will pilot an evaluation of Claude for Teachers in the Detroit Public Schools Community District.
