Xanadu partners with GlobalFoundries to scale quantum component manufacturing

Xanadu partners with GlobalFoundries to scale quantum component manufacturing Image: Primary
Xanadu announced a multi-year partnership with GlobalFoundries to develop and manufacture photonic quantum computing components on the chipmaker's 300 mm production line in Malta, New York. The initial work targets superconducting detectors that count photons in light pulses and silicon nitride circuits that guide photons with low signal loss. Xanadu intends to transfer its existing technology from laboratory prototyping to industrial production, with the collaboration supporting upcoming fault-tolerant demonstrators. The company expects the detectors to increase computing speed and reduce chip requirements. Its announcement identifies process transfer, manufacturing yields and technical performance as risks to achieving volume production.
