MINIGRAPH team demonstrates magnetic robot for graphene brain implants

MINIGRAPH team demonstrates magnetic robot for graphene brain implants Image: Primary
A European research consortium has demonstrated a robot that guides thin graphene brain electrodes along straight and curved paths, INBRAIN Neuroelectronics announced Wednesday. Nanoflex Robotics said the system achieved submillimeter accuracy in reaching deep brain areas. The robot steers a magnetic carrier under X-ray imaging. INBRAIN said researchers tested the procedure in the laboratory and a large animal model, and combined probes, electronics and software into an implant prototype that can decode signals from hundreds of brain locations. The project's first target is Parkinson's disease. These tests were in laboratories and animals; INBRAIN's separate human study concerns brain decoding and mapping.
