Magnet Forensics reportedly develops tools to bypass iPhone inactivity reboot

Magnet Forensics has developed tools to bypass the iPhone security feature that automatically puts the device into a more secure state after 72 hours of inactivity, according to 404Media reporting cited by Schneier on Security. The company makes GrayKey, which law enforcement agencies use to unlock smartphones and access their stored data. A leaked video describes a new device, GrayKey Preserve, and an Evidence Preservation Mode for regular GrayKey devices. Both also target automatic deletion of cached locations, recently deleted photos and iMessages. A Magnet employee claims the tools can preserve that data indefinitely.
