South Korea orders financial-sector security checks after bank breaches

South Korea orders financial-sector security checks after bank breaches Image: Primary
South Korea's Financial Services Commission has launched on-site investigations and instructed financial companies to inspect externally accessible systems following cyberattacks on banks. Officials confirmed a Shinhan Bank data breach and incidents affecting other banks, including Kookmin Bank. Companies must check authentication and access controls, reduce unnecessary information exposure, share threat information and submit internal inspection results as soon as possible. Local media reported exposure of 25,000 Shinhan customers' details and 119,000 Kookmin clients' credit card information. Yonhap reported a server page title associated with the ARTEX AI penetration-testing system. Authorities have not confirmed its use, and the Chinese-language string does not identify a threat actor.
