AWS lets AI agents run existing Step Functions workflows

AWS says AI agents can now run existing Step Functions workflows through Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Gateway. The integration supports Standard and Express workflows: an agent chooses when to start a process and supplies its inputs, while Step Functions executes the predefined steps in order. Agents can also inspect workflow runs to identify failures. A support agent, for example, can initiate a refund process that retains its eligibility checks and manager approval. The gateway connects agents to tools through the Model Context Protocol. The capability is available wherever AgentCore Gateway operates, with standard Step Functions and gateway charges.
