ECB prepares to invest part of own funds in tokenized securities
Image: Primary The European Central Bank has begun preparatory work to invest a small portion of its own funds in tokenized securities, seeking practical experience with distributed-ledger markets. Purchases would settle in central bank money through Pontes, the Eurosystem service launched on Monday.
Initial investments would cover euro-denominated securities issued by euro-area governments, regional authorities, agencies and European supranational institutions. The work concerns the ECB's non-monetary-policy portfolio, which helps fund operating expenses. Its Executive Board will determine timing and operating details after preparations are complete.
