Ireland fines Google €403 million over location-data processing

Ireland's Data Protection Commission fined Google €403 million for GDPR violations involving location information collected through Web & App Activity, Location History and Android's Location Accuracy feature. The regulator ordered Google to bring the processing into compliance within six months. The commission found transparency failures across all three features and said Google retained some Web & App Activity and Location History data longer than necessary. Google said the case concerns historical policies that it has since changed, citing on-device Maps Timeline storage and automatic deletion of information older than three months. The regulator has not yet published its full decision.
