The Simons Foundation, Anthropic and OpenAI will commit $15 million in combined funding and resources to help mathematicians evaluate and use AI. Simons will manage and award the funding, including through an open call for proposals supporting workshops and other initiatives. The program will support evaluation of AI-assisted results, training in new tools and community standards for AI use. Anthropic and OpenAI will also provide AI tools and computing resources to Simons-supported researchers beyond mathematics, including basic science. The $15 million commitment combines funding and resources rather than cash alone.
