London Assembly committee urges transfer of robotaxi oversight to TfL

London Assembly committee urges transfer of robotaxi oversight to TfL Image: Primary
The London Assembly's transport committee recommends giving Transport for London full regulatory powers over autonomous passenger services when the Automated Vehicles Act 2024 is fully implemented, On London reported. Implementation is scheduled for the second half of next year. Under current rules, the national government grants operating permits, monitors performance and takes enforcement action. TfL gives one-off consent and has no formal continuing role once vehicles operate. The committee also recommends strict safety standards, data sharing and compulsory monitoring of miles driven without passengers. None of the three prospective London operators has submitted a formal application to the national regulator.
