New Mexico signed a memorandum of understanding with Fujitsu to establish a quantum computing research center and build the state's hardware, software and workforce capacity. The agreement calls for training scientists and engineers, along with internships and research opportunities for students. Separately, state cybersecurity general counsel Todd Baran asked lawmakers to authorize his office to mandate newer encryption methods across state agencies. He said the office currently lacks that authority and urged legislation in the upcoming session.
