Wayve shows Mercedes prototypes as it targets consumer cars within two years

Wayve showed prototype Mercedes cars using its driving software in London, Stuttgart and San Francisco on Wednesday. Chief executive Alex Kendall said the software would reach Mercedes consumer cars within two years, following a partnership announced the previous day. He gave no exact launch date. Wayve licenses its driving model to carmakers rather than building vehicles. Kendall said the prototype system runs on small computers using cameras and radar found in mass-produced cars. Production work still has to address latency, safety targets and integration with other vehicle systems. Its London robotaxi service currently has a safety driver in every car.
