Kioxia samples LD4 storage drives with architecture validated for 122.88 TB

Kioxia Image: Primary
Kioxia introduced LD4 solid-state drives for hyperscale data centers on Friday and is sampling 15.36 TB and 30.72 TB models to select customers. The company says it has validated an architecture supporting 122.88 TB, but has not disclosed when that configuration will become available. The elongated E1.L format accommodates numerous flash packages and lets server manufacturers increase storage capacity within a thin 1U server. The drives target read-intensive uses, including AI data repositories and object storage. Although listed as PCIe 5.0 compliant, the drives operate at PCIe 4.0 x4 speeds. Kioxia has not disclosed performance, endurance or power-consumption figures, or a mass-production date.
