Google demonstrates quantum technique that cuts Willow errors 40 times

Google demonstrates quantum technique that cuts Willow errors 40 times Image: Primary
Google Quantum AI researchers demonstrated a technique on the Willow quantum computer that reduced errors 40 times, New Scientist reports. The experiment tested "magic state cultivation," which prepares special quantum states needed for reliable operations central to algorithms that go beyond conventional computation. The method grows those states within a smaller group of qubits instead of repeatedly combining many imperfect ones. Earlier theoretical work suggested it could reduce the qubits needed for consequential programs to one-tenth of previous expectations. In the experiment, however, only 8 per cent of computations produced high-quality states suitable for further use, and errors must fall further before Willow can tackle useful problems.
