Founding researcher says Microsoft's AI Frontiers group has ended

Microsoft's AI Frontiers research group has ended, a researcher who helped establish it wrote on hunch.net. The author said they had left Microsoft and that every other founding leadership team member appeared to have reached the same conclusion. The group worked on agent systems, including AutoGen and the Fara computer-use agent, as well as model architectures. It moved from Microsoft Research into Microsoft AI in early September. The author attributed the departures to conflicting research priorities and said the group would offer no internships in the coming year.
