India food regulator starts penal action against online retailers

India's food regulator has initiated penal action against Amazon, Flipkart India, Swiggy Instamart, Bigbasket and Zepto over alleged misbranding and misleading claims. The action expands the regulator's crackdown on product hygiene and labeling to online retail and quick-commerce platforms. The allegations put those companies' product listings and labeling practices under regulatory scrutiny.
