IBM, AMD and Oak Ridge announce colocated quantum error-correction platform

IBM, AMD and Oak Ridge announce colocated quantum error-correction platform Image: Primary
IBM, AMD and Oak Ridge National Laboratory's Quantum Science Center unveiled a platform this week that will place quantum computers alongside classical high-performance computing systems to research error correction. The platform will be housed at IBM's Poughkeepsie facility and combine IBM quantum hardware with Oak Ridge's Umbra system, powered by AMD CPUs and GPUs. Researchers will use the integrated equipment to test quantum algorithms, decoding methods and workflows without assembling the infrastructure themselves. IBM says placing the systems together reduces the complexity and delays associated with cloud connections. The platform is intended to investigate requirements for error-corrected systems, rather than demonstrate a finished fault-tolerant computer.
