USB boot tool expands Windows access to GeForce tensor performance unlock

An open-source tool lets Windows users remove Nvidia's tensor performance limiter on supported RTX 20, 30 and 40-series GPUs by booting from a USB drive, Tom's Hardware reports. The developer measured a 65% increase in FP16 matrix multiplication performance on an RTX 4060 Laptop GPU. The tool runs before Nvidia's driver loads and changes two registers that select tensor processing speed. It requires neither a video BIOS flash nor a modified driver, expanding access beyond earlier methods that primarily used Linux modules. Users must repeat the unlock at every boot and disable Secure Boot or configure it to trust a self-signed EFI. Results depend on power and thermal limits; some RTX 20 models fail at boot or handoff, and RTX 50 cards are unsupported.
