Infillion acquires Foursquare to add location data to its ad platform

Advertising-technology company Infillion acquired Foursquare, adding a location-data business that covers more than 100 million points of interest across 200 countries. Financial terms were not disclosed. Foursquare will continue operating under its own name and selling data to outside customers for now. Infillion plans to combine its location signals with purchase data from Catalina, which it acquired earlier, to help advertisers connect campaigns with visits and purchases. Infillion is still evaluating options for Foursquare's Swarm and Superlocal consumer apps, including possible strategic partnerships or open-sourcing some models.
