Amazon commits $20 million to Colorado River conservation effort
Image: Primary Amazon launched a Colorado River Basin Collaborative and committed $20 million to it, with a goal of raising $100 million over two years for conservation projects. Participating companies may contract independently with projects vetted by the United Nations-backed Water Resilience Coalition.
The commitment comes as data-center water demand faces greater scrutiny. Amazon said its data centers used 2.5 billion gallons globally in 2025, excluding water consumed to generate electricity. Its sustainability reporting provides efficiency figures but not a historical total for companywide water use, limiting assessment of whether conservation offsets overall growth.
