IdeaLens preprint reports 91% detection of AI-derived ideas

Researchers have developed IdeaLens, a detector that spotted AI-derived ideas 91% of the time in work described in a preprint, Nature reported. It analyzes a paper's outline rather than its writing style, first stripping the text into an outline and then examining patterns in arguments and flow. Co-author Rishanth Rajendhran says the tool could help gauge AI use in conference and journal submissions. Cornell Tech computer scientist Nikhil Garg cautions that it should not judge individual cases and may become inaccurate on data unlike its training material.
