Researchers report interface changes improve AI agent task success

Researchers report that ALIGN, a framework that generates interfaces between AI agents and their environments, improved task performance across embodied tasks, web navigation and tool use. Their preprint reports up to a 45.67% success rate improvement in ALFWorld. ALIGN adds information about the environment and enriches the observations returned after each action, helping address mismatches between an agent's expectations and what its actions actually do. It operates as a lightweight wrapper without changing agent logic or environment code. The researchers also report that generated interfaces work across different agent architectures and language models without regeneration; the reported gains come from experimental tasks.
