Abu Dhabi launches AI compliance system with food-import pilot in production

Abu Dhabi launches AI compliance system with food-import pilot in production Image: Primary
Abu Dhabi Government and OpenAI announced a system that converts government policies into automated compliance checks, with a food-import pilot already in production at the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, according to their announcement. The system checks cases against rules and links decisions to the clauses behind them. Officials oversee its operation and remain accountable for decisions. Expansion is planned for construction permits, business licensing and procurement. AI processing runs on GPUs in UAE data centers under Abu Dhabi law. The government retains ownership of system data, which is not used to train AI models. The framework excludes autonomous decisions in high-stakes areas or determinations materially affecting individuals' rights, eligibility or access to essential services.
