LM Studio Bionic: the AI agent for open models
Image: Primary LM Studio announced the launch of LM Studio Bionic, a new AI agent application designed for use with open models. The company said Bionic is built for coding, research, and complex document work, allowing users to run local models or switch to open-source models in the cloud for heavier tasks. LM Studio committed to zero data retention and pledged never to train on user data for all Bionic users. The application features a Bionic agent for coding and document tasks, voice input with local transcription powered by Mistral AI's Voxtral model, and flexible model execution options including local operation, LM Link connections, and the LM Studio Secure Cloud for frontier open models. Bionic supports coding workflows such as inspecting local codebases, explaining code, and making changes with inline diffs and agentic code search. It works with open models including GLM 5.2 and Kimi K2.7 Code. For general productivity, Bionic processes documents in a sandboxed environment with automatic checkpoints and in-app previews. The app allows users to download local LLMs directly within the interface. Bionic is a separate application from the existing LM Studio software. To access cloud models, users must create an LM Studio account to set up billing.
