Samsung discontinues Samsung Messages app for US Galaxy users on Android 12+

Samsung is discontinuing its Messages application for US Galaxy users on devices running Android 12 or newer. According to the company's official support documentation, the Samsung Messages app will reach its End of Service in the US starting July 6, 2026, for devices running Android 12 or newer versions. Samsung stated that the application will be discontinued in July 2026 and will no longer be supported on those devices. The company encourages users to transition to Google Messages as their default messaging app to maintain a consistent messaging experience on Android. After July 6, 2026, Samsung Messages will be unusable for sending messages except for emergency calls. The downloadable version of the app will also be discontinued for Galaxy devices running Android 12 or newer. Samsung directs users to check in-app notices for their specific device cutoff and to switch before that date. Notifications about the change have been shared on Samsung.com and through in-app alerts. The guidance applies specifically to the United States market.
