Discord demonstrates Rust client with concurrent accounts and faster startup

Discord demonstrates Rust client with concurrent accounts and faster startup Image: Primary
Discord demonstrated an early Rust desktop client that loaded its friends list before its existing Electron app finished starting, Windows Latest reported. Employees said both launches were cold starts, and CTO Stanislav Vishnevskiy said the new client's displayed 290.2MB memory usage included two accounts running concurrently. The rebuild uses GPUI to draw its interface on the GPU rather than bundling a browser engine through Electron. Discord says it updates in the background and stores login tokens in the operating system's keyring. Embedded YouTube content and Activities will still use the system webview. The client is used internally and is due to enter private testing. The memory figure is an early-build snapshot, with no published like-for-like benchmark or public release date.
