AWS extends microsecond time accuracy to 135 more EC2 instance types

AWS says Amazon Time Sync Service now supports microsecond-accurate time on 135 additional EC2 instance types across 12 families in all commercial regions. The service uses reference clocks in the AWS Nitro System to help applications order events and measure one-way network latency, with hardware timestamps offering nanosecond precision. Customers enable the capability by creating a Precision Time Placement Group, which launches instances with a Precision Time Protocol hardware clock enabled. They can associate that group with a Cluster Placement Group to combine precision time with low network latency.
