Altay raises $37 million for muscular dystrophy drug development

Altay raises $37 million for muscular dystrophy drug development Image: Primary
Altay Therapeutics announced a $37 million Series A financing co-led by Sound Bioventures and HealthCap. The company plans to use the proceeds to advance DX5057 through Phase 1 and Phase 2 proof-of-concept trials for facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy, or FSHD. DX5057 is an oral small molecule designed to inhibit DUX4, a protein that regulates gene activity and whose abnormal expression in skeletal muscle drives FSHD. Altay expects to begin a Phase 1 safety study in Q1 2027. The clinical program will examine DUX4-related biomarkers and muscle function.
