E Ink says Kaleido 4 raises color display refresh rates to 18fps

eink4 Image: Primary
E Ink announced Kaleido 4 color e-paper technology, claiming refresh rates up to 18fps that make video playback possible. The company says the display doubles its predecessor's color gamut volume, increases white reflectance by 15 percent and boosts contrast by 50 percent. Kaleido uses a color filter over black-and-white e-paper. A new backplane that controls the display enables faster refreshes, but Kaleido 4 still produces only 4,096 colors and displays color at a lower resolution than black-and-white text. Hanvon Technology will first adopt the display in its upcoming M10C II note-taking tablet, available only in China. Amazon and Kobo have not announced Kaleido 4 devices.
