Android 17 rollout continues with reported YouTube playback bugs on Pixels

A user reported YouTube playback issues on a Pixel device after installing the Android 17 update. In posts on X on July 7, 2026, the account @pdxweb described the problems to @TeamYouTube. The user, a YouTube Premium subscriber, said that since the Android 17 update on a Pixel 10 Pro XL, videos intermittently stop playing when the YouTube app is in the background or the display is locked. The video will keep playing for a few seconds, then pause. The user also reported that the YouTube app crashes once or twice every few days. The issues began directly after the Android 17 update. The poster noted having found others experiencing the same issue but stated they have only one device running mobile YouTube on Android 17. @TeamYouTube replied with troubleshooting suggestions including clearing cache and cookies or signing out and back into the account. The user replied that they would try those steps.
