Research finds Apple restricts predictive text for over 100,000 phrases

Research finds Apple restricts predictive text for over 100,000 phrases Image: Primary
Independent researcher Derik Kauffman discovered an Apple operating-system table restricting predictive completion for more than 100,000 words and phrases, the Guardian reported. The list includes political expressions alongside references to drugs and sexual acts. Affected phrases are not suggested by predictive text, and swipe typing can produce substitutions, such as changing "United Ireland" to "United Iceland." Apple said its keyboard avoids inappropriate or offensive predictive suggestions. Users can still type the words themselves and override suggestions; the restrictions govern keyboard assistance rather than preventing entry.
