Google's AI Mode can link and interact with select apps
Image: Primary Google announced an update to AI Mode that adds agentic capabilities allowing the system to link with select apps including Gmail, Calendar, YouTube and Maps, the company posted on its blog. The update enables the AI to execute actions such as scheduling meetings, viewing location details and purchasing tickets without leaving the search interface. The features are powered by a custom version of Gemini 2.5 and bring technology from Project Mariner into AI Mode. Users can opt in to connect additional Google apps starting with Gmail to provide personal context for tailored responses. The core AI Mode features are rolling out to all users in the U.S. without a Labs sign-up requirement. Access via the Chrome address bar will roll out later this month in English in the U.S. The feature is free for standard users. Google said the update will expand to more countries and languages in the weeks ahead. Additional capabilities shown at the recent I/O event will come to Labs users in the coming weeks and months.
