Tacta Systems launches TactaBot with tactile hand, capture glove, and dexterous AI
Image: Primary Tacta Systems launched the TactaBot, combining the company's Tacta Hand, Skill Capture system, and a Dexterous Intelligence AI model aimed at high-skilled manufacturing work, The Robot Report reported.
Co-founder and CEO Vikram Pavate said the product targets shortages of skilled factory labor by giving robots hands that sense normal force, shear force, contact, deformation, slip, temperature, texture, and surfaces. The human-sized five-finger hand has 15 degrees of freedom, three per finger, and each finger can lift up to 25 newtons, about 2.5 kg (5.5 lb) at the fingertip. Fluidic Tendon actuation moves fingers with fluid-driven pistons so heat stays away from the hand; Pavate said the mechanical design can last up to 30 million cycles, with fingertip sensors treated as replaceable consumables.
Proprietary sensors smaller than a grain of sand span 250 pascals to 700,000 pascals and measure temperature to 0.1 degrees centigrade at a 1 mm pitch. The Tacta Glove places 256 tactile sensors on each fingertip plus motion capture, streaming force, motion, video, and temperature from the factory floor without worker training. Tacta fine-tunes an off-the-shelf pre-trained model with customer glove data and expects to ship first TactaBots in early 2027, with electronics manufacturing a near-term focus.
