UK regulator proposes adding AI assistants to Google choice screens
Image: Primary The UK Competition and Markets Authority has strengthened a proposal that would require Google to include eligible AI assistants on the search choice screens shown in Android and Chrome. Users would choose a default during setup or when first opening Chrome, then receive a yearly prompt.
Providers appearing on the screens would have to identify publisher content clearly so users can reach its source. AI assistants would need to meet technical and security criteria. Comments are due October 9, and the CMA expects a final decision by year's end.
