Amazon Finalizes $50 Billion Investment in OpenAI, Secures Nearly 5% Stake Ahead of Planned IPO

Amazon has officially completed its $50 billion investment in OpenAI, the company behind the widely popular AI chatbot ChatGPT. The investment was disclosed through a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which detailed how Amazon fulfilled its financial commitment in multiple stages over the course of the year. According to the filing, Amazon initially invested $15 billion during the first quarter after signing the agreement with OpenAI. It followed this with an additional $13.7 billion during the second quarter before committing another $21.3 billion after June 30, completing the full $50 billion investment. The nearly 5% stake acquired by Amazon positions the e-commerce and cloud computing giant as one of OpenAI's most significant strategic investors ahead of its anticipated initial public offering (IPO).
