Claude Code can now share messages between coding sessions
Image: Primary Anthropic said its AI-powered coding assistant Claude Code can now share messages between separate coding sessions on the same machine. The feature arrived in version 2.1.224 for macOS and Linux and removes the need to manually copy context between Terminal windows.
The capability relies on two tools called ListAgents and SendMessage. ListAgents detects other active sessions on the Mac while SendMessage transmits messages between them. Received messages appear as labeled cards with a link back to the sender. Only text can be exchanged. Conversation history files and permissions cannot be shared.
Messaging stays local and never reaches Anthropic servers. The feature cannot approve permission requests or change session settings on its own. Cross-machine messaging works only as a reply through Remote Control which connects a Mac terminal to Claude apps for iOS and Android. The update also includes 31 other changes such as a new claude self-hosted-runner command for Team and Enterprise plans.
